WEDDING PHOTO & VIDEO FAQs….

Will getting wedding photography & videography cost an arm and a leg?

On first glance, wedding photography & videography can seem so overly expensive! We often get asked why does is cost so much for 1 day of shooting. To be honest, it isn’t just those several hours of shooting. There are multiple hours spent before wedding communicating brief and organising logistics, let alone the hours on end spent post wedding editing your images & video footage.

Unlike student or camera enthusiasts, professional photographer & videographers, are just that….”professional”…..and run a business. They have multiple overheads in regards to equipment costs, insurance, data backups, marketing, website costs, software, training and staff expenses. However, hiring a professional to capture your wedding is in your best interest because you can better trust that the professional will not “cancel” last minute, and will ensure to do a good job as it impacts their business reputation.

Then there is the question of how do you put a price on experience and artistic talent. Our professional photographer & videographer team have spent many years perfecting their craft and are award winning. This creative talent is not easily replicated by just having a “good camera”.

When it comes to wedding photography, you do get what you are paying for. Experience and quality is not worth skimping on when it comes to ensuring your special day is captured to cherish for future generations. There are no “do-overs”.

If you’re on a tighter budget, photography studios who have a team of shooters are typically able to offer smaller hour coverage packages. Having a professional capture some of your day is better than none at all.

Why should we choose you?

Wedding photography & videography is such an important and personal decision. Your goal is to find the right team that produces work you love, has experience and reputation you trust, and also obviously fits your budget! Hopefully, our team ticks those boxes.

New Black Studios was founded by Andrew & Sarah from “The Follans”. With over a decade of full time wedding experience and being very well respected within the industry… you know you are in good hands! Our photographers & videographers are some of the best in the industry, however working under a studio umbrella means you are able to engage these high-end quality shooters for a fraction of their normal cost.

Being a studio team means you will always receive personalised individual service. We pride ourselves on our customer service and ensure we deliver the best possible service and product to every wedding couple at every stage of the process. Having team members with different roles means our studio management can assist with your enquiries, planning, & paperwork; our editing team can focus on post production; whilst allowing our incredible shooters to stay creative and focus on what they do best.

You can relax and trust we have everything covered. You get the benefits of engaging a studio team, without sacrificing the personalised level of service.

Where are you based?

We are based in the Gold Coast, QLD. However we shoot weddings all over Australia, and even some overseas. Majority of our weddings are in the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Mount Tamborine, Tweed Coast and Byron Bay regions. Weddings outside the Brisbane to Byron Bay region will involve some additional travel fees.

How many team members do you have at new black studios?

Our small team is constantly growing and evolving. We currently have 5 Lead Photographers/Videographers, a team of Second Photographers we source from, 2 Editing Professionals, and 1 awesome studio manager who keeps us all in line.

How far in advance should we book you?

The simple answer is…as soon as possible! Our booking lead rates range from 2 weeks (yes we do last minute bookings) to 2 years. But on average most bookings are around 12 months in advance. And popular dates book out quickly! So as soon as you have your date set, it is worthwhile checking on our availability and securing your booking.

Can we choose the photographer or videographer we want?

We often get referrals from previous couples family & friends who specifically want the same photographer their friend had. We get that, and will totally do our best to accommodate your request. So if you have a particular shooter you would really love to have, let us know!!! In saying that, all our shooters are amazingly talented and all shoot in a similar very natural style. You can view our team profiles here.

What equipment do you use?

All our photographers and videographers use professional-grade camera bodies and a range of lenses and necessary equipment. They also all have appropriate backup gear!!!

What happens after wedding?

After your big day while you are enjoying being newlyweds and often off on your honeymoon, our editing team gets straight onto your images and footage captured by our shooters.

We always give each wedding our full attention so as not to sacrifice quality. Our turnaround time for your entire photography gallery is usually 3-4 weeks and video 2-3 months.

How many images will I receive?

Every wedding is different so we don’t like to put an exact number on the number of photos you will receive. For example, a small backyard wedding will be less photos than a huge cultural wedding with lots of traditions and activities etc to capture. However there is no limit to number of photographs taken. To give you an idea, on average most weddings end up around the 60-80 images per hour coverage. And all images are edited (in same style you see on our site & socials etc).

Can I choose my music for my highlight video?

Choosing the music for your wedding video seems like a wonderful and simple idea, but it is actually quite complicated. Music songs are very heavily regulated and have strict copyright and licensing implications. Although you may have your heart set on an Ed Sheeran song, the truth is legally we don’t have the right to use it along with many other commercial songs.

Here at New Black Studios we use licensed music and our professional team sources a suitable song (or 2) that works nicely with the style, feel and dialogue from your wedding day. We are great at what we do and also choose songs that won’t distract from your actual video and are timeless in nature (so won’t date). We also always recommend our clients have viewed our previous video highlights samples so they are confident they will like what we will produce for them.

Do we receive high resolution image files?

Yes! Every photography coverage package includes all of your final images in high resolution (ready to print) ready for digital download.

Can I show you pictures of what I want?

It’s great for our couples to tell us, or show examples, of particular photos and styles they like. However, our team does not photograph from a “shot list” throughout the wedding day. The hallmark of New Black Studios photographic approach is non-posed, journalistic coverage of actions in real time. Long lists and frequent request for posed photographs by the Client or wedding attendees reduce the capability to explore and obtain photographs of genuinely occurring moments. Your wedding will be different to anyone else’s wedding (you personalities, your style, your location, the season, the lighting, etc) …so your photos will be YOUR own unique photos. But it is great to see what inspires you and the style you prefer.

We also always recommend our clients have viewed our previous wedding galleries (real wedding blog posts) so they are confident they will like what we will produce for them.

Do you charge travel fees?

We are based on Gold Coast, and there are no travel fees for weddings within the radius between Brisbane to Byron Bay and out to Beaudesert. For regions outside these, there may be some additional travel charges and will depend on package chosen. Our team loves destination weddings, so please contact us for more information for a quote to your wedding location.

What are your booking details?

To secure your day and booking with us, a $1000 booking payment and signed contract is required at time of booking. The balance of your package is then due 1 month out from your wedding.

Do you offer albums?

Of Course! We absolutely love it when our couples choose to purchase an album. We also only offer the best products available. We unapologetically inform all our couples that our Fine Art wedding books are not the cheapest available. That is because we refuse to use sub-standard suppliers and/or deliver any products to our clients that we can not guarantee the longevity of.

Cheaper books have been known to crack & fade after a few years. Your wedding book is an heirloom that needs to last the generations to come. Our books are sourced from the top international manufacturers currently available.

We also recommend that couples ensure their photography wedding budget is used to ensure you get the photographer (& resultant photos) you want. An album is something you can always purchase in the future. Re-doing your wedding to get photos you want are not as easy!!!

What do your clients say about you?

Although we’d love to think you will believe us when we say our other couples are happy with us, we get that you might want to see this for yourself. You can view some of our client testimonials here.

Can you recommend other vendors?

We know how mind boggling it can be trying to source wedding vendors….and more importantly trying to sort the good wedding vendors from the bad. To help you, we have shortlisted some of our favourite wedding vendors that we trust and highly recommend. On request, we will send our clients our recommended wedding suppliers. You can view our wedding venue reviews here.
